Working on a permanent 4 on 4 off contract, you will be responsible for the entire operation on site. Focusing primarily on Transport and compliance, you will also manage a smaller Warehouse Operative team, driving forward operational efficiency. Who is our client? Our client is the leading time-critical distributor – they provide the essential link between food manufacturers and Blue Chip supermarkets. They work across chilled, deep chill, ambient and frozen, picking around 3.3 million cases per week and delivering around 130,000 pallets of food & drink products into UK grocery retailers each week. They do this through skilled professional staff, who enjoy great training, internal promotion and an inclusive culture.
What is this site like? Having serviced a long-term, stable Blue Chip contract for 15 years, this is a successful site looking for a strong Transport Shift Manager with great Transport compliance knowledge.
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Transport Shift Manager duties will include:
- Overall operational responsibility for the site, including a large Transport Office of 50+ drivers and a small warehouse
- Ensuring legal compliance with the O-license, H&S and company policy
- Leading and managing a diverse workforce of Transport Planners, admin staff, LGV drivers, and Warehouse Operatives at an overall headcount of 120 people
- Reviewing the daily operational plan and staying in daily contact with the senior management team
- Constantly analysing ways in which the operation can be improved, providing maximum productivity and ultimately providing savings to the customer
- Performance managing all planners, admin, drivers and warehouse staff to achieve their KPIs
- Monitoring driver performance, to ensure compliance with VOSA standards
- Overseeing all drivers’ hours and tachographs and ensuring that vehicle defects are recorded and fixed
- Willingness to work 4 on 4 off shift pattern, rotating between days and nights
Requirements
- Ideally Transport Managers CPC
- Familiarity with TMS, ideally Microlise
- Excellent knowledge of Transport Legislation
- Knowledge of O-license requirements
- Proven track record of managing 60+ drivers and warehouse staff
- Exposure to FMCG operations, ideally encompassing food and warehousing
